In a major boost to India’s agricultural research and innovation, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, laid the foundation stone for a new Seed Research Centre (Beej Anusandhan Kendra) at IFFCO’s Kalol unit in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, on April 6, 2025. The event was held as part of the celebrations marking 50 years of IFFCO’s establishment.
The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of key dignitaries including Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel, IFFCO Chairman Shri Dileep Sanghani, and IFFCO Managing Director Dr. Udai Shanker Awasthi.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Amit Shah applauded IFFCO’s five-decade journey in strengthening India’s cooperative movement. He highlighted IFFCO’s groundbreaking innovations, such as nano urea and nano DAP, which have earned global recognition for India’s cooperative sector.
He emphasized that the newly announced Beej Anusandhan Kendra will:
- Focus on high-quality seed research and development
- Work towards enhancing crop productivity
- Promote efficient use of water and fertilizers
- Contribute to the conservation of traditional Indian seed varieties
Shri Amit Shah added, “This Seed Research Centre will be instrumental in increasing farmers’ income, improving seed quality, and making India self-reliant in the seed sector.”
Alongside this initiative, Shri Amit Shah also announced the creation of The Tribhuvan Sahkari University, which will promote cooperative education and integrate modern technology into grassroots agricultural practices.
With the groundwork now laid, the Beej Anusandhan Kendra at IFFCO Kalol is expected to emerge as a national hub for seed innovation.
