Union Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced in a press conference on March 27, 2025, that the government has approved the procurement of 100% of Tur, Urad, and Masoor under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) for the 2024-25 procurement year. This means there is no limit on the quantity of Tur, Urad, and Masoor produced in the country that will be procured at MSP.
The main goal behind this move is to reduce the import of pulses and boost domestic production. This initiative will encourage farmers to grow more pulses, ultimately helping the country become self-sufficient in pulses.
To benefit from this scheme, farmers must register on the portals of NAFED and NCCF. The minister also appealed to all state governments to establish effective and transparent procurement arrangements, ensuring that farmers receive fair prices for their produce.
The procurement of Tur has already been approved in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh under the Price Support Scheme during the Kharif 2024-25 season.
The minister also informed that the procurement of Tur has already begun in key states, including Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Telangana. As of March 25, 2025, around 2.46 lakh metric tonnes of Tur have been procured, benefiting 1,71,569 farmers in these regions.
In addition to Tur, Urad, and Masoor, the government has also approved the procurement of other important crops like Gram, Mustard, Lentil and Copra from specific states under the PM-AASHA scheme. The PM-AASHA Scheme aims to ensure price assurance for pulses, oilseeds, and copra, providing financial stability for farmers.
