Good news for sugarcane farmers! The Central Government has increased the Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) of sugarcane to Rs. 355 per quintal for the upcoming 2025–26 sugar season. This new rate will help lakhs of sugarcane farmers across the country earn better income.
What is FRP of Sugarcane?
FRP (Fair and Remunerative Price) is the minimum price that sugar mills have to pay to farmers for their sugarcane. It is fixed by the Central Government every year based on suggestions from the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP), and after discussing with state governments and other experts.
New Sugarcane Price for 2025–26
- New FRP: ₹355 per quintal
- Earlier Price: ₹340 per quintal
- Increase: ₹15 per quintal (4.41% hike)
- Cost of Production: ₹173 per quintal
- Profit Margin: Farmers will now get 105.2% more than their cost of production.
Recovery Rate and Bonus
The government has also added extra incentives for good quality sugarcane:
- If your sugarcane gives more than 10.25% recovery, you will get ₹3.46 extra per quintal for every 0.1% increase.
- If recovery is less than 10.25%, the price will reduce by ₹3.46 per 0.1% drop.
- Good news for low recovery areas: If recovery is below 9.5%, no deduction will be made. Farmers will still get ₹329.05 per quintal.
This step will protect farmers in areas with lower sugar content in sugarcane.
