Andhra Pradesh Weather Update for Farmers (March 1 to March 4, 2025)

Dry weather is likely to prevail in Andhra Pradesh. Maximum temperatures are expected to be above normal by 2-3°C over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP), Yanam, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP), and Rayalaseema.

North Coastal Andhra Pradesh

Ensure proper management of rice crops due to the prevailing dry and warm conditions. These conditions can increase the risk of leaf folder and stem borer infestations in rice. Keeping a close watch and managing these pests is crucial to prevent damage.

South Coastal Andhra Pradesh

For late sown and January sown groundnut, monitor for early leaf spot disease, which is more likely to occur due to the humid conditions combined with high temperatures. This disease can reduce plant vigor and affect pod development. It is advised to spray Hexaconazole @ 2 ml/litre to control the disease and maintain healthy growth.

Godavari Zone

Pulses harvesting can be done. Dry weather reduces the chance of fungal diseases during harvest. Be cautious of leaf spot disease in vegetables due to the humidity, which may increase with the temperature rise. Spraying Mancozeb @ 3g/litre can help control the disease and prevent further spread.

Krishna Zone

Ensurie that cotton crop residues are managed properly. The dry weather increases the possibility of pest buildup, particularly the pink bollworm, in cotton residues. Storing cotton residues near houses or mills can spread pests to the next crop. Prompt removal and destruction of cotton stubbles will break the lifecycle of the pest.

Scarce Rainfall Zone

The dry weather and high temperatures may lead to fruit drop in Mango crops that are at flowering to fruiting stages. This can be minimized by providing light irrigation to the mango crop during flowering and fruiting. This also helps in maintaining proper hydration levels. Warm conditions also favor mango hoppers, which can damage the flowers and fruits. It is advised to spray Fipronil or Acetamiprid for pest control and Planofix to minimize fruit drop.
